2025 Cruise Bookings Project Record Growth
Despite initial concerns that cruise sales might decline at the end of last year due to the presidential election, a slowdown in post-pandemic sales, and ongoing international conflicts, industry experts are forecasting a stellar year for cruise bookings in 2025. Executives from several cruise-focused host agencies are optimistic, predicting that 2025 will surpass previous years in terms of sales and growth.
Sharon Fake, Executive Director of Travel Experts, shared her positive outlook with AGENTatHOME magazine. “While 2024 cruise sales increased moderately over the banner year of 2023, 2025 is gangbusters at this time and well ahead of the same period last year,” Fake stated. She highlighted that advisors already have bookings for 2025 on several cruise lines that exceed the total bookings for all of 2024, particularly in the luxury segment. This surge indicates a strong rebound and sustained interest in cruising despite earlier uncertainties.
Theresa Scalzitti, COO of Cruise Planners, echoed Fake’s optimism. “Sales for 2025 departures are looking very strong. Cruise Planners is pacing 18 percent ahead of the same time last year,” she reported. Scalzitti attributed this growth to an expanding booking window, which began earlier in the year. Many cruise suppliers are also reporting stronger-than-usual performance, turning the year around more robustly than in previous years.
The initial hesitancy in booking cruises for late 2024 has been overcome, with bookings for 2025 now exceeding pre-pandemic levels. “After some booking hesitancy due to the election and world events, clients have decided that this is the time to plan and book for 2025 cruising,” Fake explained. This renewed confidence among travelers is driving the significant increase in bookings, signaling a healthy recovery and growth in the cruise industry.
Drew Daly, Senior Vice President and General Manager for Dream Vacations and CruiseOne, also noted stronger booking patterns compared to the pre-pandemic pace. “This is evident with longer bookings windows, robust pricing, new products/destinations, and overall continued demand for travel,” Daly observed. These factors contribute to the sustained demand, ensuring that 2025 will be a landmark year for cruise sales.
One notable trend for 2025 is the shift in the traditional booking seasons. Typically, sales slow down in late fall and early winter, but this year has bucked that trend. Scalzitti mentioned that the last two months have been exceptionally strong, breaking the usual pattern of softer bookings during the fall and winter. This surge can be attributed to Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales offered by most cruise lines, which have extended their promotions beyond the typical sale periods and merged into the annual Wave Season—the first three months of each year.
Daly added, “Wave Season has shifted over the years, and the industry starts to pick up heavily during Black Friday and Cyber Week time, which these days extend beyond those weeks both before and after.” Following this, there is traditionally another uptick in bookings during the traditional Wave Season after the new year. This new pattern highlights the adaptability of the cruise industry in maintaining strong sales throughout the year.
Cruise lines are also enhancing their offerings with year-round incentives, which help sustain strong bookings regardless of the season. “Year-round offers are now much more available, particularly to cruisers with status with the cruise lines,” Fake noted. These offers often include substantial and comparable deals throughout the year, encouraging continuous engagement and bookings from loyal customers.
Looking ahead, cruise trends for 2025 include shorter-length sailings featuring brand-new ships and an earlier opening of booking windows for future years. “What continues to be clear is the value of the travel agent is stronger than ever; people want to work with someone they trust and have a relationship with,” Daly emphasized. The increasing reliance on trusted travel agents underscores the importance of personalized service and expertise in the evolving cruise market.
In summary, the cruise industry is poised for a record-breaking year in 2025, driven by strong booking trends, expanded booking windows, and innovative sales strategies. Travel advisors and cruise lines alike are benefiting from this surge, ensuring that 2025 will be remembered as a standout year in the world of cruising.
