Alaska Airlines and Cathay Pacific Reward Employees with Bonuses
Alaska Airlines and Cathay Pacific have both announced significant bonuses for their employees, recognizing their hard work and dedication in what has been a challenging year for the airlines.
Alaska Airlines is awarding a record $327 million in its Performance Based Pay (PBP), the largest payout in the program’s 22-year history. The payout, which amounts to six weeks of additional pay for each employee, comes as the airline reflects on a pivotal 2024. Despite a rocky start to the year, including a mid-flight incident involving a 737 MAX 9 that grounded a third of the fleet, Alaska Airlines has managed to restore its operations to a safe and reliable state. In addition to the PBP payout, the airline distributed $22.7 million in quarterly operational bonuses for meeting on-time and safety goals. With nearly $350 million in combined payouts, Alaska Airlines is showing its commitment to rewarding its staff for overcoming challenges.
Meanwhile, Cathay Pacific has also expressed its gratitude to employees with a bonus of at least one month’s salary. This reward comes on the heels of a strong financial performance throughout 2024, as the airline navigates its recovery post-pandemic. CEO Ronald Lam Siu-por praised the team for their resilience and strategic fiscal achievements, noting that the airline is investing over HK$100 billion ($12.8 billion) in improving customer experiences and ensuring sustainable operational growth.
Both airlines’ bonus announcements reflect the broader efforts to recognize and reward the dedication of employees as they continue to navigate a rapidly evolving airline industry.
