Mokulele Airlines to Fully Resume Flights by February 3, 2025

Mokulele Airlines has announced it will resume full operations by February 3, 2025, following a fleet-wide grounding in mid-January due to maintenance and safety concerns.

“Mokulele Airlines is currently accommodating all passengers across our network and will progressively increase flights throughout the week,” said Louis Saint-Cyr, president of Hawai’i operations. “We plan to restore full scheduled service by February 3, 2025.”

The airline has not disclosed specific reasons for the groundings, but all aircraft required inspections before returning to service.

A subsidiary of Surf Air Mobility, Mokulele operates as part of Southern Airways Express (9X, Memphis International), providing essential inter-island flights in Hawai’i with a fleet of Cessna 208EX Grand Caravans. It serves Honolulu, Kahului, Kalaupapa, Hana, Kona, Kamuela, Kaunakakai, Kapalua, and Lanai City and holds Essential Air Service (EAS) contracts for four Hawaiian destinations.

This is the second grounding in six months for Mokulele. In August 2024, it temporarily suspended flights due to documentation discrepancies related to landing gear maintenance, citing precautionary safety measures.

Following the latest disruption, the Hawai’i Department of Transportation (DOT) is planning an open-ended charter contract to maintain inter-island service in case of future groundings. Meanwhile, US House Representative Jill Tokuda has suggested reducing Mokulele’s federal subsidies due to repeated service disruptions.
