Delta Air Lines to Launch Non-Stop Service from Los Angeles to Melbourne in December 2025

Delta Air Lines has announced plans to launch a non-stop flight between Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Melbourne Airport (MEL) by December 2025. The almost 16-hour journey will be operated using the airline’s Airbus A350-900 aircraft, featuring Delta’s brand-new four-class cabin, including 40 premium Delta One suites.
Starting with three weekly flights, Delta aims to provide convenient, direct access between Los Angeles and Melbourne with the potential to increase frequency based on demand. This will make Delta the first airline to operate a non-stop Airbus A350 flight from Melbourne to the United States, marking a significant milestone in the airline’s network expansion.
Paul Baldoni, Senior Vice President of Network Planning at Delta, emphasized the importance of the new route: “Delta’s new service to Melbourne reflects our commitment to connecting customers with the world’s most exciting destinations.”
With this new service, Delta continues to strengthen its presence in Australia, becoming the third U.S. carrier to offer non-stop flights to Melbourne, alongside Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport (SYD) and Brisbane Airport (BNE). This adds to Delta’s growing network in the South Pacific, which also includes destinations like Auckland Airport (AKL) in New Zealand and Papeete Fa’a’ā International Airport (PPT) in Tahiti.
Lorie Argus, CEO of Melbourne Airport, also praised the new route, highlighting the significant opportunities for both leisure and business travelers in Victoria. “Delta is one of the largest airlines in the world and is consistently rated one of North America’s best carriers,” she said. “We’re thrilled to have them adding Melbourne to their network because of the opportunities it presents for Victorians and Victorian business.”
Delta’s new Melbourne route is expected to offer travelers an enhanced experience while exploring Australia or connecting through Delta’s Los Angeles hub to destinations across the globe. With Los Angeles being the largest U.S. airport for Delta, the new non-stop service aligns with the airline’s broader strategy to expand its international footprint and cater to the growing demand for travel between the U.S. and Australia.
