United Airlines to Resume Daily Flights Between New York and Tel Aviv

United Airlines has announced it will restart services between New York-Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) and Tel Aviv-Ben Gurion International Airport (TLV) on March 15, 2025. This decision comes after recent ceasefire deals between Israel, Gaza, and Lebanon. Initially, United will operate a daily flight on this route using its Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners, which are configured to carry 318 passengers in a three-class layout.

A second daily flight will begin on March 29, 2025, further strengthening United’s presence on this route. United had previously suspended all flights to Israel in August 2024 due to the escalation of hostilities in the region between Israel and militant groups such as Hamas and Hezbollah.

The carrier highlighted that the resumption of services follows a thorough evaluation of operational considerations and collaboration with flight attendants and pilots’ unions. Additionally, United offers connectivity to Tel Aviv via its partner airlines, including Lufthansa Group airlines. The airline will continue to assess the possibility of restoring more flights to Israel based on demand.

Increased Competition and New Services Between the US and Israel
The resumption of United’s flights comes as other U.S. airlines also restart services to Israel. Delta Air Lines announced that it will resume daily nonstop flights between New York-JFK and Tel Aviv starting April 1, 2025, using Airbus A330-900neo aircraft. Delta has also signed a codeshare agreement with EL AL Israel Airlines, allowing Delta customers to book flights to Tel Aviv from several major U.S. cities.

In addition, Arkia Israeli Airlines, Israel’s second-largest airline, launched its own direct service between Tel Aviv and New York-JFK on February 9, 2024. The airline is operating three flights per week using a leased Airbus A330-900neo from Iberojet, a Spanish-Portuguese charter airline. The service is aimed at business professionals who need frequent travel between the U.S. and Israel and will run at least until May 2025.

With major airlines such as United and Delta re-entering the market, it remains to be seen whether Arkia’s service will continue beyond its initial term.

This resurgence in direct flights between the U.S. and Israel marks a key recovery for both leisure and business travel routes, which have long been highly lucrative for airlines operating in this market.
