British Airways Launches Enhanced Loyalty Club

British Airways is set to redefine its customer rewards with the launch of an enhanced version of its loyalty program, The British Airways Club. With exciting new ways for passengers to earn bronze, silver, and gold status, the airline is giving travelers even more incentive to choose BA for their journeys. Announced in early 2025, the updated program builds on the new look scheme introduced in December 2024, where members earn points based on the amount they spend rather than on the distance traveled.

Under the revamped model, members will earn one point for every £1 (approximately $1.25) of eligible spending. This structure not only applies to flight bookings but also extends to extras such as seat selection, additional baggage fees, and purchases made through BA Holidays. This comprehensive approach to earning points reflects British Airways’ commitment to rewarding all aspects of travel, making it easier for customers to accumulate the necessary Tier Points to upgrade their membership status.

On February 5, 2025, BA further broadened its loyalty offering by introducing a new Bonus Tier Point scheme. Through this initiative, members can earn between 75 and 550 Bonus Tier Points per flight, with the exact amount depending on the cabin class in which they travel. This offer is valid until December 31, 2025, and is designed to provide an extra boost to frequent flyers, helping them reach their desired tier faster.

The new program also addresses the needs of passengers who have traditionally qualified for status based on the number of sectors flown. British Airways has ensured that those customers can still achieve bronze or silver tier status by completing 25 and 50 flights respectively. To reach the various tiers under the new system, members will need to accumulate 3,500 Tier Points for Bronze status, 7,500 for Silver, and 20,000 for Gold. This structured approach provides clarity and predictability, making it easier for loyal customers to understand exactly what is required to achieve and maintain their preferred status level.

“We crunched our data and it shows that under the new model, Bronze and Silver members can still re-qualify based on around the same number of average-priced standard fare flights as previously,” explained Colm Lacy, Chief Commercial Officer at British Airways. “However, we’ve heard that our members wanted more clarity, certainty, and reassurance, so we’ve found a way to re-introduce earning by sector for flights with a BA flight number to support members who use British Airways’ flights to commute.”

In addition to the new flight-based earning opportunities, The British Airways Club now offers several other ways for passengers to accumulate Tier Points. These include holiday packages with British Airways Holidays—where members earn one Tier Point for every £1 spent per person on the package—as well as contributions to Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF), which can earn up to 1,000 Tier Points for a £1,000 contribution. Extra points can also be earned through ancillary purchases such as seat selection and additional baggage fees. Furthermore, spending on the British Airways American Express Premium credit card will be rewarded with up to 2,500 Tier Points, providing a robust incentive for cardholders.

The new loyalty program will officially launch on April 1, 2025, marking a significant step forward for British Airways as it seeks to attract and retain a diverse customer base, from frequent business travelers to leisure passengers. With this comprehensive upgrade to its loyalty scheme, British Airways is not only enhancing its competitive edge but also reinforcing its commitment to delivering warm, enlightened hospitality to every guest.
