Nassau & Paradise Island’s Bold Tourism Push

Nassau and Paradise Island in the Bahamas are ramping up efforts to attract more international visitors by strengthening air connectivity and tapping into emerging markets. As Routes Americas 2025 gets underway, the Nassau & Paradise Island Promotion Board (NPIPB) is spearheading initiatives designed to diversify visitor demographics and reinforce the islands’ reputation as premier leisure destinations.
NPIPB CEO Joy Jibrilu told Aviation Week, “Over the past couple of years, we have made significant strides to enhance our air connectivity, offering nonstop service from major markets in the U.S., Canada, and the UK.” This renewed focus on air links is a critical part of the islands’ broader strategy to boost tourism and stimulate economic growth. In addition to established markets, NPIPB is actively targeting underserved secondary markets in the U.S., Brazil, and Colombia, while also expanding outreach in Europe.
New international routes secured by Nassau Lynden Pindling International Airport have played a pivotal role in these efforts. Recent additions include Alaska Airlines’ flights from Los Angeles and Seattle, Delta Air Lines’ service from New York LaGuardia Airport, and Bahamasair’s operations to Montego Bay, Jamaica. These routes not only enhance connectivity but also support a steady flow of tourists even after peak visitation in 2023. With impressive figures maintained in 2024, NPIPB anticipates that strategic investments and expanded marketing campaigns will drive further growth in the coming years.
In the summer of 2024, NPIPB launched its first brand campaign in seven years, reintroducing Nassau and Paradise Island as “one destination” with two distinct island experiences. This fresh campaign aims to reposition the Bahamas as a unified yet diverse tourism hub that appeals to travelers seeking both luxury and authentic island culture. The campaign is expected to attract a broader range of international visitors and elevate the profile of the islands in competitive global markets.
To accommodate an anticipated increase in air connectivity and visitor numbers, substantial development projects are underway. Plans include expanding the number of hotel beds available to guests and enhancing overall visitor infrastructure. Baha Mar has already announced plans for a fourth luxury resort slated to open in 2029, while a new Four Seasons-managed residential community on Paradise Island is expected to debut in 2027. These projects will not only boost accommodation capacity but also enrich the visitor experience and stimulate local economic activity.
Balancing growth with environmental responsibility remains a top priority for NPIPB. “While we celebrate record arrivals, we remain committed to sustainable tourism practices that safeguard our environment and heritage,” Jibrilu emphasized. To support this commitment, the promotion board is forging partnerships with organizations like the Reef Rescue Network and collaborating with resort partners to implement eco-friendly initiatives and conservation projects.
As Nassau and Paradise Island continue to enhance their air connectivity and tap into new markets, they are setting a benchmark for innovative and sustainable tourism in the Caribbean. This bold tourism push is expected to yield long-term benefits for the Bahamian economy and ensure that the islands remain a top choice for international travelers seeking a blend of modern amenities and pristine natural beauty.
