Marriott, AmexGBT, MakeMyTrip Leaders on AI’s Role in Travel

The impact of AI on travel continues to be a key discussion point, as industry leaders from Marriott, AmexGBT, and MakeMyTrip shared insights at The Phocuswright Conference in November.
Ankit Khanna, Chief Product Officer at MakeMyTrip, emphasized the transformative role of AI in enhancing travel planning. “We see AI as a game-changer, helping travelers make informed decisions early in their journey,” he said, predicting significant advancements in the next two to three years.
For American Express Global Business Travel, AI will be a top priority in 2025, according to Marilyn Markham, VP of AI and Automation Strategy. She highlighted a company-wide adoption of generative AI, focusing on internal efficiencies and improving customer experiences.
Meanwhile, Geoffrey Renaldo, VP of Web and Mobile Products at Marriott International, stressed the importance of AI fundamentals, particularly in data security and privacy. He acknowledged the enthusiasm around AI adoption but noted that businesses must ensure AI genuinely solves customer problems rather than implementing technology for its own sake.
While AI innovation in travel is rapidly evolving, industry leaders agree that strategic implementation and customer-centric solutions will define the future of travel technology.
