Air Greenland (GL, Nuuk) has signed a dry-lease agreement with Carlyle Aviation Partners for an A320-200neo, with delivery scheduled for December 2026 and entry into service by spring 2027.

The airline plans to deploy the A320neo on its Ilulissat–Copenhagen route, complementing its larger A330-800neo once Ilulissat’s new international airport opens by late 2026.

“The current delivery time for new Airbus aircraft is six to seven years, so we have opted to lease the aircraft to ensure readiness for the new airport while maintaining financial flexibility,” said Jacob Nitter Sørensen, CEO of Air Greenland.

The six-year lease includes an option for extension. Thanks to cockpit commonality between the A320neo and A330neo, most A320neo flights will be operated by A330 pilots, with additional training planned for Dash 8 pilots.

Maintenance for the A320neo will be handled in Copenhagen by SAS Scandinavian Airlines, where Air Greenland’s A330 is already serviced.

According to ch-aviation data, Air Greenland’s fleet includes ten aircraft, with seven DHC-8-Q200s, one DHC-8-200, and one Hawker 800XP. The airline recently replaced its A330-200 with a new A330neo and plans to wet-lease a Boeing 737-800 from Airseven in summer 2025.

With this fleet expansion, Air Greenland aims to enhance international connectivity while optimizing operational efficiency in its growing network.
