TransNusa Launches First Bali-Guangzhou Service to Boost Australia-China Connectivity

TransNusa is set to make history as the first Indonesian airline to launch a scheduled service between Bali and Guangzhou, a move designed to strengthen Australia-China connecting traffic. The new route will enable travelers from Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport to seamlessly connect through Bali’s Denpasar International Airport, with onward flights to Perth—a key gateway and co-host of Routes Asia 2025.

Starting on April 13, the Bali-Guangzhou service will operate four times per week on an Airbus A320 configured with 174 seats. This new route will complement TransNusa’s existing network, which already includes domestic connections and multiple mainland China routes. From April 13 through May 21, passengers can benefit from three connecting flights from Guangzhou to Perth, while two connecting flights will operate from Perth via Bali to Guangzhou. TransNusa CEO Bernard Francis emphasized, “With the launch of our new Bali-Guangzhou route, our passengers can now enjoy one of the fastest scheduled connecting flights to either Guangzhou or Perth via Bali, with a transit duration of either 1 hr. 30 min. or 2 hr. 35 min., depending on the day and time of the scheduled flights.”

In addition to the new service, TransNusa will also boost its Australian operations. Bali-Perth flights are set to commence on March 20, initially operating three times per week before ramping up to daily departures starting June 1. The Bali-Perth route will become TransNusa’s only Australian service, reinforcing its commitment to providing convenient and competitive travel options across key international markets.

Established in 2005 and originally operating domestic flights in Indonesia, TransNusa ceased operations in 2020 due to the pandemic. However, following a change in ownership and management, the airline was revived in 2022 and has since rebranded from a low-cost carrier to a premium service provider. The introduction of the Bali-Guangzhou route marks a major milestone in the airline’s expansion strategy. With this addition, TransNusa’s mainland China network will expand to five routes, complementing its services from Jakarta to Guangzhou and Guiyang, and from Manado to Fuzhou and Guangzhou. Currently, the airline operates 17 weekly roundtrip flights between Indonesia and China.

Sabre Market Intelligence data highlights strong outbound and inbound traffic between China and Perth, with approximately 102,000 two-way passengers recorded in 2024. Guangzhou-Perth ranks as the third-largest city pair after Shanghai and Beijing. Seasonal services from other carriers, such as China Southern Airlines’ Guangzhou-Perth nonstop flights and China Eastern Airlines’ limited Shanghai Pudong-Perth service during Lunar New Year, further underline the growing demand for robust connectivity between China and Australia.

With its pioneering Bali-Guangzhou service, TransNusa not only strengthens its regional network but also provides travelers with a convenient and efficient connection between Asia and Australia. This strategic move is expected to enhance tourism flows and facilitate more seamless international travel, positioning TransNusa as a key player in the evolving aviation landscape in the region.
