JetBlue Extends Suspension of Flights to Haiti Amid Ongoing Unrest

JetBlue Airways has announced an extension of its suspension on flights to Toussaint Louverture International Airport (PAP) in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, with operations now on hold until at least June 11, 2025. This decision follows ongoing civil unrest in Haiti, which has significantly impacted the airline’s ability to operate safely in the region.
Initially, JetBlue had planned to suspend flights to Haiti through April 2025, but due to continued instability, the suspension has been extended. A spokesperson for the airline confirmed the decision, stating, “Due to the ongoing civil unrest in Haiti, we have made the decision to suspend all flights to and from the country. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and update our plans as necessary.”
The suspension of JetBlue’s flights comes just a week before the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) flight ban on Haiti is set to expire on March 12, 2025. The FAA had imposed the ban following multiple reports of aircraft being hit by gunfire while flying over Haitian airspace. In December 2024, Haiti’s government had reopened Toussaint Louverture International Airport after a month-long closure due to incidents involving gunfire targeting aircraft.
Despite the FAA’s flight ban being set to lift, commercial air traffic at Toussaint Louverture International Airport remains severely limited, as of January 2025. While some airlines, such as Spirit Airlines and American Airlines, have suspended flights to Port-au-Prince, other carriers are still operating flights between Cap-Haitien and Miami, Florida, as well as other destinations in the Caribbean.
The ongoing gang violence and civil unrest in Haiti remain significant concerns, with the US Department of State continuing to advise US nationals against traveling to the country due to risks such as kidnapping, crime, and limited access to healthcare.
