Air India has placed an order for 100 additional Airbus aircraft, including 10 widebody A350s and 90 narrowbody jets from the A320 family. This new order expands its 2023 commitment, which included 470 aircraft from both Airbus and Boeing, raising its total Airbus orders to 350.

The airline has also partnered with Airbus for Flight Hour Services-Component (FHS-C) to optimize the maintenance and performance of its growing A350 fleet. Chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran cited India’s rapid aviation growth as a key factor in this expansion, aligning with Air India’s aim to become a world-class global carrier.

Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury reaffirmed Airbus’ commitment to supporting Air India’s transformation under Tata’s leadership. Currently, Air India has 344 Airbus aircraft pending delivery, with six A350s already incorporated into their fleet. The new additions aim to enhance long-haul and domestic operations, reinforcing Air India’s status as a major player in global aviation.

As of early 2025, Air India operates a diverse fleet comprising 205 aircraft, which includes a mix of narrow-body and wide-body planes. This fleet includes models such as the Airbus A320neo, A321neo, and A350, as well as Boeing 777 and 787 variants. These aircraft cater to both domestic and international routes, supporting the airline’s extensive network across various global destinations. This recent fleet expansion aligns with Air India’s strategic growth initiatives, particularly after its merger with Vistara, aiming to enhance its operational capabilities and route offerings.
