Batik Air Malaysia Commits to Kuala Lumpur Subang, Plans Expansion

Batik Air Malaysia has reaffirmed its commitment to Kuala Lumpur Subang Airport (Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport) and announced plans to increase flight frequencies and introduce new routes in the coming months. The airline’s statement, issued on March 14, 2025, follows AirAsia’s decision to exit Subang after a short-lived operation.

Subang Airport is undergoing major redevelopment, with infrastructure upgrades aimed at accommodating more passenger jet movements. Currently, only Batik Air Malaysia, Firefly, and AirAsia have operated scheduled passenger jet services at the airport. According to ch-aviation data, Batik Air Malaysia serves Penang, Kota Kinabalu, and Kota Bharu from Subang.

CEO Chandran Rama Muthy emphasized the airport’s potential as a modern city hub and reiterated the airline’s commitment to its growth. However, he stressed the need for more flight slots to facilitate expansion.

“We urge Malaysia’s Ministry of Transport, Civil Aviation Authority, Malaysian Aviation Commission, and Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd to work together in opening additional slots,” Muthy said. “This would enhance connectivity, introduce more services, and contribute to Subang Airport’s continued development.”

With Batik Air Malaysia doubling down on its Subang operations, the airline aims to strengthen its presence as the airport undergoes transformation into a premier city airport for domestic and regional travel.
