Somon Air Resumes Dushanbe-Bishkek Flights After Four Years

Somon Air (SZ) has resumed flights between Dushanbe, Tajikistan, and Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, after a four-year suspension. The airline began operating the route on March 14, initially offering weekly departures with plans to increase frequency in the future. Flights are being serviced by Somon Air’s fleet, including Boeing 737-800s and 737-900ERs.

The resumption of air services follows a significant diplomatic breakthrough. On March 13, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov reached an agreement to resolve a longstanding border dispute. As part of this resolution, both nations decided to reopen land border crossings and restore air connectivity that had been suspended in 2021 due to border clashes.

Somon Air currently operates a fleet of four Boeing 737-800s and two 737-900ERs. The airline is also set to expand its fleet with two additional Boeing 737-8 aircraft, which will be dry-leased from DAE Capital. Additionally, Somon Air operates a Boeing 787-8(BBJ) for the Government of Tajikistan. This aircraft was originally delivered to Fuerza Aérea Mexicana in 2014 before being sold to Tajikistan.

With the return of flights to Kyrgyzstan, Somon Air is set to play a key role in rebuilding regional air connections, enhancing travel options for both business and leisure passengers between the two Central Asian countries.
