Wizz Air UK Delays A321XLR Launch Due to April Delivery

Wizz Air UK has delayed the introduction of its Airbus A321XLR due to a delivery delay, with the first aircraft now expected to arrive on April 10 instead of the originally scheduled March date. The airline confirmed the update to aviation news outlet Rynek Lotniczy.

Despite the delay, Wizz Air UK will proceed with the launch of its new London Gatwick to Jeddah International route on March 31, as planned. Initially, the service will be operated using an Airbus A321neo (A321-200NX). To ensure nonstop performance between the two airports, the airline will restrict the number of passengers onboard to reduce aircraft weight and avoid refueling stops.

Wizz Air UK has not yet issued an official public statement, but the information aligns with updates from ch-aviation and fleet tracking data.

According to the ch-aviation fleets module, Wizz Air UK currently operates 18 A321neo aircraft. The broader Wizz Air Group has 47 Airbus A321XLRs on order across its four air operator certificates, including Wizz Air Malta, Wizz Air Abu Dhabi, and Wizz Air Hungary.

The first A321XLR, msn 11631, was recently spotted at Hamburg Finkenwerder performing rejected takeoff tests. Once delivered, it will be registered as G-XLRA and become the first of its type to enter service for Wizz Air UK.

The A321XLR is expected to play a key role in expanding Wizz Air’s long-haul capabilities, offering extended range and improved fuel efficiency compared to previous models.
