Bolt Acquires Viggo to Expand Electric Ride-Hailing in Denmark

Estonia-based mobility platform Bolt has acquired Viggo, a Denmark-based electric ride-hailing service, marking its first acquisition as the company expands its ride-sharing footprint in Denmark. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Founded in 2013, Bolt operates across 600 cities in 50 countries, offering ride-hailing, food delivery, car-sharing, and micromobility. The company already has a presence in Denmark through its e-bike rentals in Copenhagen. This acquisition will now allow Bolt to scale its ride-hailing services with an established local partner.
Viggo, launched in 2019, has built a fleet of over 300 fully electric vehicles and a network of 500 drivers serving 450,000 users in Copenhagen and Aarhus. Bolt CEO Markus Villig shared the news on LinkedIn, noting that Viggo is Denmark’s highest-rated taxi service. Bolt is also partnering with local taxi company Taxi 4×27 as part of its expansion strategy.
Lars Speekenbrink, Bolt’s regional general manager for Northern Europe, said the acquisition gives the company a strong market position. “We are acquiring the best-performing taxi company in Denmark,” he stated.
Bolt plans to maintain Viggo’s premium service and sustainability standards while leveraging its own technology and platform to enhance rider experience and driver earnings. Viggo welcomed the acquisition, calling it a new chapter and praising Bolt’s ability to scale the business.
Bolt also emphasized a smooth transition for Viggo’s drivers, access to its technology, increased ride demand, and a continued commitment to electric mobility. The company plans to invest further in Denmark’s taxi industry and integrate its e-bike user base to support ride demand.
