Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) has introduced a new dining concept, ‘Flavors by SAS,’ designed to offer passengers a more varied and globally inspired culinary experience. Set to launch on October 1, 2025, the new offering will first be available on European business class flights and will later be expanded to the airline’s airport lounges and intercontinental flights from Stockholm, Oslo, and Copenhagen.

‘Flavors by SAS’ builds on the success of the airline’s ‘New Nordic by SAS’ concept, which debuted in 2017. The new dining concept takes a broader, more international approach, featuring a greater variety of dishes and enhanced presentation with culinary influences from around the world. According to SAS, ‘Flavors by SAS’ represents the evolution of onboard dining by providing passengers with a dynamic and diverse food and beverage selection tailored to modern travelers.

The airline’s current dining offering has been in place for eight years, and as customer preferences evolve, so too must the in-flight dining experience. The new concept introduces globally inspired menus that offer tiered meal service levels, allowing SAS to adjust meal offerings based on flight duration and conditions. This ranges from a simpler basket service on shorter flights to full tray meals with both hot and cold dishes on longer journeys.

Another key feature of ‘Flavors by SAS’ is its flexible dining approach, which allows the airline to mix and match meal components to create unique tray combinations. This ensures variety and freshness for passengers, while a rotating menu system ensures frequent travelers are constantly introduced to new meal options.

For business class passengers, SAS is elevating the dining experience with the use of porcelain tableware, including a double-walled porcelain mug, stainless-steel utensils, and glasses. This change is part of the airline’s broader commitment to sustainability, reducing food waste, prioritizing local sourcing, and minimizing plastic packaging by incorporating more compostable and recyclable materials into the service.

Aron Backström, Vice President of Product and Loyalty at SAS, said, “While SAS has always been about bringing Scandinavia to the world, this new concept brings the world to Scandinavia, incorporating bold and diverse flavors inspired by Europe, the US, Asia, the Middle East, and the Mediterranean.” He further emphasized the customer-centric nature of the new dining model, which allows the airline to adjust meals based on flight time, available space, and service needs, creating a smoother and more premium dining experience.

With ‘Flavors by SAS,’ the airline sets a new standard for in-flight dining, combining innovation, flexibility, and global culinary influences to enhance the passenger experience. This concept reflects SAS’s commitment to offering a more personalized and dynamic food offering while maintaining sustainability and elevating the overall journey for its travelers.
