Romania’s Animawings Cuts Routes Amid A220 Delivery Delays

Animawings will suspend two routes during the 2025 summer season due to delays in the delivery of new Airbus A220-300 aircraft. Chief Commercial Officer Diana Dima confirmed the changes in a statement to ch-aviation.
The Bucharest Henri Coanda–Oradea route will be suspended from June 11 through October 1. Additionally, the planned launch of a new service from Bucharest to Dublin, originally scheduled for July 21, has been postponed indefinitely.
The delays stem from the late arrival of A220-300s, which were expected to join the fleet this summer. Delivery has now been pushed to September 2025. According to ch-aviation data, Animawings is due to receive two A220-300s under a dry lease from U.S.-based lessor Azorra, though it remains unclear whether both aircraft were initially expected within the summer timeframe.
Animawings currently operates a fleet of two A220-200s and three A320-200s. The airline recently announced that it would temporarily base one of its A320-200s at Timisoara to support network operations and is also exploring the possibility of opening additional bases throughout Romania.
The route adjustments highlight the growing impact of aircraft delivery delays across the aviation industry, particularly as demand continues to rise during peak travel periods. Despite the setback, Animawings remains focused on growth and plans to expand its regional presence as new aircraft become available later in the year.
