Deutsche Aircraft has rolled out its first test prototype of the D328eco, a modern turboprop built on the legacy of the Dornier 328. Known as TAC1, the prototype represents a major step toward certification and commercial launch. The D328eco has been designed for superior regional performance, blending German engineering with enhanced efficiency, sustainability, and passenger comfort.

Stretched by 2 meters compared to its predecessor, the D328eco accommodates up to 40 passengers and offers a range of 1,205 nautical miles. Its twin Pratt & Whitney Canada PW127XT-S engines deliver a 14% reduction in fuel burn per passenger and 22% lower emissions. Built at Deutsche Aircraft’s Leipzig-Halle Airport facility with key components from Oberpfaffenhofen, the aircraft also incorporates cutting-edge avionics that support single-pilot operations in select regulatory environments.

The D328eco’s STOL performance enables it to take off in 1,028 meters and land in just 965 meters, while its 5.5% steep approach certification opens access to airports like London City. With a long-range cruise speed of 324 knots and a ceiling of 30,000 feet, it can outperform other turboprops and even rival regional jets on shorter routes.

Designed with adaptability in mind, the aircraft handles unpaved runways, hot and high conditions, and strong crosswinds. It supports turnaround efficiency with built-in steps, standard ground servicing compatibility, and airbridge access. The cabin offers a quiet, stand-up aisle, spacious bins, and flexible seating, and can be easily reconfigured for medevac, military, or humanitarian use.

Type certification and service entry are targeted for late 2027.
