New Long-Haul Routes Launch Across Global Airlines

Airlines across the globe are expanding their long-haul networks in June 2025, with Virgin Australia, United Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and Starlux Airlines among the key players launching new international routes. Virgin Australia is set to debut flights to Doha for the first time, marking a milestone in its strategic partnership with Qatar Airways, which acquired a 25% stake in the airline last year. Starting June 12, the airline will begin daily flights from Sydney to Doha using Boeing 777-300ERs wet-leased from Qatar Airways, followed by routes from Brisbane on June 19 and Perth on June 26. A fourth route from Melbourne is expected to launch in December.

United Airlines is preparing to launch a historic new service to Greenland, marking its first-ever nonstop flight to the country. Starting June 5, United will operate a twice-weekly route from Newark Liberty International Airport to Nuuk, Greenland’s capital, using a Boeing 737 MAX 8. The launch comes after the opening of Nuuk’s new extended runway last November, making this the first direct link from the U.S. to Greenland.

Delta Air Lines is also expanding its international presence, returning to the transpacific market from Salt Lake City for the first time since 2011. On June 12, the airline will begin daily nonstop service to Seoul Incheon with Airbus A350-900neo aircraft. The new route becomes Delta’s fifth to Seoul, joining services from Atlanta, Detroit, Minneapolis-St. Paul, and Seattle.

Meanwhile, Starlux Airlines continues to grow in the U.S. market with a new route from Taipei to Ontario International Airport in Southern California, launching on June 2. The service will operate four times weekly with Airbus A350-900 aircraft and is aimed at the significant Taiwanese American population in Southern California. Ontario becomes the airline’s fourth U.S. destination, joining Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Seattle.

Additional new services launching in June include Ethiopian Airlines’ new route to Hyderabad from Addis Ababa beginning June 16 with three weekly flights on 737 MAX 8 aircraft. Royal Jordanian is re-entering the Indian market with a new 4X-weekly route from Amman to Mumbai starting June 19 using A320neos.
