Carnival Marks 35 Years of Cruising from Port Canaveral

Carnival Cruise Line recently celebrated 35 years of sailing from Central Florida’s Port Canaveral with a special event aboard its Mardi Gras ship. The milestone celebration brought together leaders from the Canaveral Port Authority, the U.S. Coast Guard, Brevard County, and Carnival Cruise Line executives.
During the event, Carnival was presented with a proclamation from the Canaveral Port Authority Board of Commissioners, recognizing the cruise line’s longstanding contribution to the region. In return, Carnival donated a hybrid pickup truck to Keep Brevard Beautiful, a local nonprofit focused on environmental conservation.
Carnival President Christine Duffy highlighted the importance of Port Canaveral to the brand’s success, calling it a cornerstone of their operations for more than three decades. Duffy also looked ahead to the upcoming launch of Celebration Key, Carnival’s new exclusive destination opening next month, describing it as a major development for both the company and its guests.
Carnival currently homeports four ships year-round and one seasonally at Port Canaveral, making it the cruise line’s most active homeport. The line plans to further expand operations by assigning its next new ship to the port. Since becoming the first major cruise line to sail from Port Canaveral in 1990, Carnival now embarks more than 1.2 million guests annually from the port.
With over 300 annual departures, Carnival’s operations contribute an estimated $450 million in economic impact to the local area. Port Canaveral CEO Capt. John Murray praised the anniversary as a meaningful milestone in the port’s history.
