IndiGo Airlines Set to Order Up to 50 ATR72-600 Aircraft at Paris Air Show

Indian low-cost carrier IndiGo is reportedly preparing to place a major order for up to 50 ATR 72-600 turboprop aircraft at the upcoming Paris Air Show, according to Business Standard. Sources familiar with the matter suggest that the deal could involve between 30 and 50 aircraft, with an estimated value ranging from $450 million to $750 million once finalized.
IndiGo has been evaluating its regional fleet expansion options for some time. Last year, reports indicated the airline was in talks with multiple aircraft manufacturers for up to 100 regional aircraft. ATR, a joint venture between Airbus and Leonardo, is seen as the leading candidate, largely due to its existing partnership with IndiGo.
Currently, IndiGo operates 46 ATR 72-600s, which serve short-haul and regional routes across India. Expanding its ATR fleet would further strengthen the airline’s regional connectivity, a key growth focus in India’s booming aviation market.
In parallel, IndiGo is also investing in its long-haul operations. Earlier this month, at the IATA Annual General Meeting in Delhi, the airline doubled its Airbus A350-900 order, adding 30 more widebody jets. CEO Pieter Elbers called the move a “strategic step” towards boosting IndiGo’s long-haul network.
The airline recently announced new nonstop services from Mumbai to Manchester and Amsterdam. The Paris Air Show, where the ATR order may be confirmed, will take place from June 16 to 22, 2025.
