Boeing Scores 303-Plane Order Surge Ahead of Paris Air Show

Boeing secured its largest monthly order haul in over a year, booking 303 aircraft orders in May 2025, just weeks before the Paris Air Show. Much of the momentum came during former U.S. President Donald Trump’s Middle East visit, where Boeing’s jets once again featured prominently in international deals.

The biggest headline order was a 150-jet deal with Qatar Airways, including 120 Dreamliners and 30 777X widebody aircraft. Boeing also secured orders for 146 737 MAX jets, though many customer names were not disclosed, suggesting broader demand may be building under the radar.

The timing of this surge is critical as Boeing continues to recover from its recent 737 MAX crisis. Production remains capped at 38 aircraft per month under regulatory restrictions, and Boeing reached that output at its Renton facility in May. The company also delivered 45 aircraft last month, signaling progress in its operational recovery. With the Paris Air Show approaching—a major battleground for global aircraft sales—Boeing’s strong May orders give it fresh momentum to challenge Airbus.

Airbus, however, remains competitive, delivering 51 aircraft in May despite facing ongoing supply chain issues, particularly with engines and key components. Both manufacturers now face massive order backlogs stretching well into the 2030s, and the focus is shifting to which company can convert orders into revenue fastest as post-pandemic airline demand accelerates.

All eyes are now on Paris, where both Boeing and Airbus are expected to unveil major deals that could set the tone for the remainder of 2025.
