Boeing’s Advanced Air Mobility company, Wisk Aero, has selected Miami, Florida, as the official launch city for its autonomous electric air taxi services. This decision positions Miami-Dade County as one of the first regions in the United States to offer advanced air mobility (AAM) operations. The announcement was made on June 17, 2025, during a press conference at the Paris Air Show.

Wisk CEO Sebastien Vigneron detailed the company’s progress in bringing its fully autonomous, four-passenger eVTOL air taxi to market. Wisk has signed two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs): one with the Miami-Dade Aviation Department (MDAD) and another with the University of Miami’s Engineering Autonomy Mobility Initiative (MEAMI). The MDAD agreement focuses on infrastructure planning, policy development, and commercialization pathways for autonomous AAM at county airports.

Beyond Miami, Wisk plans to operate in Long Beach, California, and Brisbane, Australia. Additionally, Wisk has acquired SkyGrid, an AAM Third-Party Service Provider (TSP), to support safe integration into air navigation systems.

Wisk also signed a three-party MoU with the City of Kaga, Japan, and JAL Engineering, a subsidiary of Japan Airlines, expanding its global footprint. Kaga has been designated a national strategic zone for AAM development.

Wisk’s 6th-generation air taxi is designed to meet the highest safety standards, operating fully autonomously without a pilot onboard. The first aircraft is fully assembled at Wisk’s Silicon Valley test facility, with flight testing expected to begin soon. A second aircraft is also under assembly, with additional tests planned before year’s end.
