Finnair Cancels 143 Flights Due to Helsinki Airport Strike Action

Finnair has canceled 143 flights as a result of planned strike action at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport (HEL), causing widespread disruptions for travelers this week. On June 15, 2025, the airline confirmed that the Finnish Aviation Union (IAU) will proceed with industrial action on June 17, 2025, significantly impacting ground handling, catering, and other essential services throughout the day.
The strikes will affect multiple work shifts, disrupting flight operations and services for approximately 6,500 Finnair passengers. Affected travelers are being offered alternative travel arrangements or full refunds through Finnair’s booking system.
Finnair is also monitoring the potential for additional strikes scheduled for June 19, 2025, which could bring further cancellations and delays. The airline plans to announce possible cancellations for that day on June 17.
The carrier warned that the industrial action may also cause baggage handling issues, and advised passengers to check in early, arrive at the airport on time, and keep essential items such as medications in carry-on luggage to avoid potential delays or lost baggage.
Finnair had previously allowed passengers with flights scheduled on strike days to reschedule their trips in advance, with many customers taking advantage of this flexibility to avoid disruptions.
If the June 19 strikes proceed, Finnair expects further operational challenges, making this one of the most disruptive periods for the airline’s Helsinki hub in recent months.
