Starlux Airbus A350 Order Closes Paris Airshow with 591 Jet Deals

A firm order from Taiwanese airline Starlux for 10 additional Airbus A350-1000 aircraft brought the total number of commitments at the 2025 Paris Airshow to 591 jets, more than double the 286 orders recorded at last year’s Farnborough event.

Starlux now holds 18 A350-1000s on order, with its first delivery scheduled later this year. Deliveries for the 10 new widebodies will begin in 2031, according to Starlux CEO Glenn Chai.

By the close of Wednesday, Airbus had secured more than 400 commitments at Le Bourget, roughly $21 billion in orders, accounting for approximately two-thirds of total orders at the show. These included 148 firm orders, 102 preliminary deals, 50 purchase options, and 106 additional options. Notably, Riyadh Air’s agreement for up to 50 A350-1000s contributed significantly to Airbus’s strong showing.

“Obviously the backdrop to the show is a difficult one, a sad one, but we made key announcements across nearly all product lines,” said Airbus executive vice-president of commercial aircraft sales, Benoit de Saint-Exupery. “We rate this Paris Airshow as extremely positive for Airbus.”

Embraer also saw strong interest, securing 132 commitments, including 60 firm orders and options for 50 E175s from U.S. regional carrier SkyWest. Meanwhile, ATR received a preliminary commitment from JSX for up to 25 aircraft.

Despite the surge in activity, this year’s total still falls short of previous Paris Air Show records. The lower figure is partly due to Boeing’s reduced presence following the June 12 crash of an Air India Boeing 787-8. At the 2025 Paris Air Show, Boeing maintained a low profile and announced no new orders. All Nippon Airways confirmed orders for 18 Boeing 787-9s and 10 737 MAX 8s. Boeing’s absence from the order books is attributed both to a recent string of major deals secured during a Middle East tour with President Trump, and to the company’s focus on the ongoing investigation into the 787 crash, which shifted attention away from sales activity.
