Pratt & Whitney, an RTX business, and Cebu Pacific, the Philippines’ largest low-cost carrier, have signed a 12-year EngineWise® Comprehensive Maintenance Services Agreement to support the airline’s fleet of GTF-powered aircraft. The agreement was announced on June 16, 2025, during the opening day of the Paris Air Show 2025.

The long-term partnership will provide full-service support for GTF engines ordered by Cebu Pacific in 2024, including those tied to its historic engine order for up to 152 Airbus A321neo aircraft announced in July 2024. The deal reinforces a multi-decade relationship between Cebu Pacific and Pratt & Whitney, which dates back to the 1990s when the airline operated JT8D-powered DC-9s.

Under the EngineWise agreement, Cebu Pacific will benefit from a full suite of engine maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services, as well as predictive analytics and performance optimization tools designed to maximize fleet uptime and reduce operating costs.

“Maintaining the performance and efficiency of our fleet is a top priority,” said Mike Szucs, CEO of Cebu Pacific. “The GTF engine has enabled up to 20% reduction in fuel burn compared to previous-generation engines – translating into meaningful savings in fuel efficiency, lower emissions and reduced operating costs. This agreement strengthens our ability to scale sustainably while continuing to deliver on our commitments to passengers.”

Cebu Pacific currently operates a fleet of 56 Pratt & Whitney-powered aircraft, with the GTF engine now powering a growing portion of its A320neo family fleet. The airline has been steadily modernizing its operations, targeting lower emissions and improved fuel efficiency across its domestic and regional routes.

The Geared Turbofan (GTF) engine, a next-generation propulsion system from Pratt & Whitney, delivers significant reductions in fuel burn, noise, and CO2 emissions compared to legacy engines. It is especially attractive to low-cost carriers like Cebu Pacific that operate high-frequency, point-to-point services across dense regional networks.

“This agreement represents not just a long-term service commitment, but a continuation of our shared mission to support Cebu Pacific’s growth with efficient, sustainable engine technology,” said Rick Deurloo, President of Commercial Engines at Pratt & Whitney. “We are proud to extend our decades-long partnership with Cebu Pacific as they lead the way in environmentally responsible low-cost travel in Southeast Asia.”

With sustainability now a core focus for global aviation, Cebu Pacific’s investment in GTF engines and long-term MRO support aligns with its strategy to minimize environmental impact while expanding route capacity. The EngineWise program will allow the airline to optimize engine health and reduce unscheduled maintenance, ultimately lowering total lifecycle costs.

This announcement adds to the growing list of GTF-related commitments secured by Pratt & Whitney during the Paris Air Show, highlighting strong industry confidence in the GTF platform and its long-term value for airline operations worldwide.
