Qantas Boeing 737 Pilot Collapses After Landing in Sydney

A Qantas Boeing 737 pilot lost consciousness shortly after landing at Sydney Airport on June 10, prompting a swift response from the flight crew. The incident occurred on Qantas flight QF804, a short domestic route from Canberra to Sydney carrying 113 passengers and eight crew members, including three pilots.
The trainee captain reported feeling unwell while the aircraft was taxiing after a routine landing. He applied the brakes and then collapsed in the cockpit. A supervising check captain, onboard as part of Qantas’ standard pilot training protocol, immediately took control and safely taxied the aircraft to Gate T3 around 7:00 PM local time.
Medical personnel were called to the aircraft and treated the pilot as passengers disembarked. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) confirmed the incident as a “pilot incapacitation event” but stated it would not launch a full investigation, noting the situation was handled effectively without ongoing safety concerns.
Qantas confirmed the event and said all standard operating procedures were followed. A spokesperson added, “The safety and well-being of our passengers and crew is our priority, and we’re supporting the individual following the incident.”
This marks the second similar event involving a Qantas 737 in recent months. In March, a Qantas captain experienced chest pains mid-flight from Brisbane to Sydney, prompting a priority landing and immediate medical attention.
The ATSB is reviewing both incidents to determine if further action is necessary. Qantas continues to reinforce its cockpit protocols to ensure crew safety and readiness.
