Several flights were diverted on Tuesday morning after a man jumped a security fence at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport.

The incident followed a car crash around 11:30 a.m. on Brookpark Road, adjacent to the airport grounds. According to a statement from airport officials, one of the vehicle’s occupants exited the car and breached the airport perimeter by jumping the fence.

The individual was quickly apprehended by an airport employee.

“During the apprehension of the subject, a ground stop was issued to ensure the airfield was safe before resuming operations,” the airport stated. A ground stop temporarily halts all takeoffs and landings.

Flight operations have since resumed.

At least three inbound flights scheduled to arrive in Cleveland between 11:15 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. were diverted to nearby airports, including Pittsburgh and Detroit. All affected flights have since landed safely in Cleveland.

The incident is currently under investigation.
