Mindtrip Launches AI Travel App for Real-Time Discovery

AI-powered trip planning platform Mindtrip has launched a new mobile app designed to serve as a real-time travel companion, marking a significant step in its mission to simplify and personalize the entire travel journey. Built on OpenAI’s technology, the app offers tailored recommendations based on user preferences and precise location data, allowing travelers to explore destinations with minimal pre-trip planning.
Mindtrip, named a PhocusWire Hot 25 Travel Startup for 2025, aims to enhance the travel experience with an app that acts as what co-founder and CEO Andy Moss calls “every traveler’s secret weapon.” The app generates curated suggestions for things to see and do by pinpointing a traveler’s exact location and layering in preferences through an interactive map interface. It combines an AI knowledge base of over 10 million global points of interest with insights from more than 30,000 local experts to deliver personalized, vetted recommendations.
“With our new app, we’re offering an entirely new on-trip experience,” said Moss. “We’ve eliminated the need for hours of research and instead deliver social-proof-backed ideas in real time.” Travelers can also organize their plans by adding hotels, flights, dining reservations, attraction tickets, and other trip elements into the app.
A standout feature is Mindtrip’s “magic camera,” which uses multimodal AI to provide instant information about surroundings through image recognition. Travelers can snap photos of neighborhoods, landmarks, or signage, and the AI can translate text or offer deeper insight into a location’s significance. The app also supports voice input and audio responses, tapping into OpenAI’s multimodal capabilities for a hands-free, intuitive user experience.
Marc Manara, head of startups at OpenAI, praised Mindtrip’s use of the technology. “It combines OpenAI’s multimodal capabilities with real-time location intelligence and deep personalization, helping travelers explore the world around them in a truly innovative way,” he said.
Beyond the discovery and organizational tools, the app gives users access to community content, allowing them to browse peer reviews and mentions in local guides. Mindtrip says all recommendations are vetted and that users are notified when suggestions align with trusted sources.
Since its May 2024 launch, Mindtrip has gained traction quickly. The company raised $7 million in seed funding in 2023 and secured an additional $12 million between September and November 2024. In that time, it also introduced a group chat feature, a receipt management tool, and a B2B solution aimed at partners in the travel industry. In March 2025, Mindtrip acquired Thatch, a platform that features curated guides from travel creators and local experts, further expanding its content library and personalization capabilities.
With the new app, Mindtrip now delivers real-time discovery and assistance, completing its vision of supporting travelers from inspiration to booking and beyond. The company sees the app as a game-changing tool for modern travelers who want flexibility, convenience, and trusted insights throughout their journey.
