QantasLink Picks Embraer E190 for Regional Fleet Renewal

QantasLink has selected the Embraer 190 as the preferred aircraft for a major fleet renewal at Network Aviation, its regional subsidiary based in Western Australia. The decision will see the gradual retirement of the airline’s aging Fokker F100 fleet, with up to 14 mid-life E190 aircraft planned to enter service. The first E190s are expected to arrive by late 2026, pending final procurement arrangements.

Network Aviation provides fly-in fly-out (FIFO), charter, and scheduled passenger services across Western Australia. As part of the broader renewal strategy, four Airbus A320s from Jetstar Asia will begin operating under Network Aviation before the end of 2025. These jets will support the early phase-out of four F100s, prompting an incremental depreciation charge related to the early retirement of those aircraft.

QantasLink CEO Rachel Yangoyan said the fleet upgrade represents a significant investment in regional aviation and the resources sector. “The E190 is a proven platform that operates across Australia today and will deliver improved operational efficiency and reliability, while also creating opportunities for our people in the West,” she said.

Qantas emphasized the E190’s flexibility and efficiency, particularly for regional routes with fluctuating demand. The aircraft is already in use across Australia, making it a familiar and operationally reliable choice. Further updates on delivery schedules and procurement outcomes are expected in the coming months as discussions progress. The move reflects Qantas’ long-term commitment to improving service levels and sustainability in regional aviation markets.
