Viking Vesta Joins Fleet in Croatian Naming Ceremony

Viking has officially welcomed its newest ocean ship, Viking Vesta, during a traditional naming ceremony held in Split, Croatia. The event marked another milestone for the cruise line as it prepares to celebrate a decade of ocean voyages in 2025. Norwegian journalist and philanthropist Lene Tangevald-Jensen was honored as the ship’s godmother. As part of maritime tradition, she used a Viking broad axe to cut a ribbon, which led to a bottle of Norwegian aquavit shattering against the ship’s hull—a symbolic christening gesture.
The celebration included performances by acclaimed Norwegian soprano Sissel Kyrkjebø, who is also the godmother of Viking Jupiter, and violinist Tor Jaran Apold. Their musical contributions added a cultural highlight to the event, reinforcing Viking’s strong connection to its Norwegian heritage.
Viking chairman and CEO Torstein Hagen expressed pride in welcoming the Viking Vesta to the fleet and appreciation for Lene Tangevald-Jensen’s role in the ceremony. He described her as embodying Viking’s core values of curiosity, honesty, kindness, and hard work, and noted that she is not only an accomplished professional but also a close friend and valued part of the Viking family.
The Viking Vesta is a 998-guest vessel with a gross tonnage of 54,300 tons. It joins the line’s fleet of sister ships, offering 499 all-veranda staterooms, bright and spacious public areas, and a variety of al fresco dining venues. Designed for destination-focused travelers, the ship continues Viking’s commitment to elegance, comfort, and culturally enriching voyages.
