Boeing Trails Airbus in June Aircraft Orders

Boeing recorded 116 new aircraft orders in June 2025, falling well behind Airbus, which secured 203 orders, many announced during the Paris Air Show. The June total marked a sharp decline for Boeing compared to May 2025, when the manufacturer posted 303 orders—its sixth-best month ever for new business. Boeing’s latest figures included 54 737 MAXs, 32 787-10s, and 30 787-9s, bringing the company’s total backlog to 6,590 unfilled orders.

The drop in new orders coincided with a dip in overall production, which has slowed in the wake of the deadly Air India crash on June 12, 2025. The accident, involving a Boeing aircraft, claimed the lives of 241 people onboard and 19 on the ground, with at least 60 others injured. The incident has intensified scrutiny over Boeing’s manufacturing practices and could have contributed to the reduced order volume.

By contrast, Airbus bounced back strongly in June after recording no orders in May. The European manufacturer had strategically held back announcements for the Paris Air Show, resulting in a surge of 203 new aircraft commitments. Airbus also outpaced Boeing in deliveries for the month, handing over 63 aircraft to 35 customers, while Boeing delivered 60 aircraft, mainly comprising 737 MAX variants, with additional deliveries of 777F, 787-10, 787-9, and 767-2C aircraft.

Despite the June setback, Boeing’s year-to-date performance includes 668 new orders, covering 343 737s, 242 787s, and 83 777s. The company has also delivered 280 aircraft so far in 2025, including 209 737s, 37 787s, 20 777s, and 14 767s. Airbus, meanwhile, leads in deliveries for the year, with 306 aircraft delivered to 65 customers.
