AJet, Turkish Airlines Deal Aims to Boost Tourism to Northern Cyprus

Tourism to Northern Cyprus is set to grow following a new agreement signed on July 7, 2025, between Turkish Airlines, its low-cost subsidiary AJet, and authorities in the Turkish-controlled area of the island. The deal is designed to improve air access and lower travel costs to Ercan International Airport (ECN), the main airport serving the region.

The agreement was signed in Lefkosa, with Turkish Cypriot Prime Minister Unal Ustel and Turkish Airlines Chairman Ahmet Bolat in attendance. Bolat called the deal a “historic day” for Northern Cyprus tourism, while Ustel emphasized its significance for regional development.

Under the new protocol, AJet will launch shuttle flights from Ercan to major Turkish cities, offering simplified onward connections to Europe. A fare cap of 6,000 Turkish liras (about $150) has been introduced for routes between Turkey and Northern Cyprus. In addition, a special promotional fare of €250 ($293) will be offered for round-trip flights between London Stansted and Ercan during an upcoming London event.

Currently, flights to Ercan must transit through Turkey, though discussions are underway to reintroduce direct links between the UK and Northern Cyprus. A bill in the UK Parliament supports such a move, citing over 300,000 Turkish Cypriots in the UK and the international safety compliance of Ercan Airport.

As part of the agreement, AJet will hire 60 young Turkish Cypriots as cabin crew and will decorate two aircraft with ‘Ada Kibris’ decals to promote the destination. The initiative aims to make Northern Cyprus more accessible and competitive for international visitors.
