Airalo Becomes Unicorn After $220M Funding Boost

Global travel eSIM provider Airalo has secured $220 million in a major funding round, led by CVC, which contributed $185 million. The latest investment propels Airalo’s valuation past the $1 billion mark, officially granting the company unicorn status. The company plans to use the new capital to enhance customer service, expand product offerings, and deliver better value to its growing user base.
Airalo currently serves over 20 million travelers across more than 200 destinations, offering digital eSIM solutions that eliminate the need for physical SIM cards. CEO and co-founder Ahmet Bahadir Ozdemir called the investment a significant milestone for both the company and the future of global mobile connectivity. He emphasized that the funding will fuel innovation across every stage of the customer journey, enabling the development of more flexible plans and a faster, more seamless digital experience. According to Ozdemir, Airalo is not only optimizing eSIM services for travelers but also laying the groundwork for the next generation of international connectivity infrastructure.
As part of its expansion strategy, Airalo is launching a variety of new eSIM bundles this month. These include one-gigabyte data plans and 30-day unlimited packages, along with new data, voice, and text offerings in select markets. The company is also rolling out an upgraded in-app experience for web, iOS, and Android users while expanding its enterprise platform to support business clients and partners.
CVC’s managing partner Siddharth Patel praised Airalo as the leading name in the travel eSIM category, highlighting its role in transforming the way people stay connected globally. He noted that the digital travel eSIM market, already valued at around $1 billion, is still in its early growth phase. Patel believes Airalo’s digital-first, scalable model positions it well to offer superior customer experiences at significantly lower costs than traditional roaming services.
The funding round reflects a growing interest in the eSIM market as international travelers seek affordable, reliable alternatives to expensive roaming charges. While Airalo leads the pack, it is not the only player attracting investor attention. In June, Kolet raised $10 million in Series A funding, and Truely secured $2 million, signaling strong momentum across the sector.
With this funding milestone, Airalo is poised to strengthen its position as a global leader in travel connectivity. The company’s efforts to improve user experience, expand plan variety, and support enterprise customers are aimed at capturing an even larger share of the growing digital eSIM market. As international travel rebounds and mobile users demand more flexible data solutions, Airalo’s unicorn status marks a pivotal point in the evolution of mobile connectivity for travelers around the world.
