Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer reported its highest-ever order backlog of US$29.7 billion in the second quarter of 2025, marking a major milestone in the company’s history. The announcement came with the release of its Q2 financial results on July 21, 2025. During the quarter, Embraer delivered 61 aircraft across its commercial, executive, defense, and support business segments, a 30% year-on-year increase from 47 jets in Q2 2024 and more than double the 30 aircraft delivered in Q1 2025.

Embraer’s commercial aviation division alone reached a near-record backlog of US$13.1 billion, just shy of the all-time high of US$13.4 billion recorded in late 2017. The surge represents a 31% increase from Q1 2025 and a 16% rise compared to Q2 of the previous year. A key driver of growth was a firm order from SkyWest for 60 E175 aircraft, with options for 50 more, and a landmark order from Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) for 45 E195-E2 jets, SAS’s largest direct aircraft order in three decades. The commercial unit delivered 19 jets in Q2, in line with the previous year, and completed 26 deliveries in the first half of the year, achieving 32% of its annual delivery target.

The executive aviation division posted a US$7.4 billion backlog, a 62% year-on-year increase, though slightly down from Q1 2025. The unit delivered 38 jets in Q2, up 41% from the 27 delivered in Q2 2024, with 61 aircraft delivered in the first half of the year. This represents 41% of Embraer’s annual target of 145 to 155 jets for this segment.

In the defense and security segment, the backlog reached US$4.3 billion, double the amount recorded a year ago and up 3% from the prior quarter. Highlights included delivery of four A-29 Super Tucano aircraft to Paraguay and new commitments from Lithuania and Portugal for the C-390 Millennium. Embraer and the Portuguese Air Force also agreed to expand their existing deal by adding ten optional orders, aimed at potential future buyers across NATO and Europe. However, recent selections by Sweden, Slovakia, and Panama have not yet been added to the backlog, pending final contracts.

The services and support division saw a 55% year-on-year increase in backlog to US$4.9 billion, reflecting robust demand for aftermarket services. The division signed a new maintenance contract with CommuteAir and announced plans to launch a full-flight simulator in Madrid for E2 aircraft training in collaboration with CAE.

The Q2 2025 results highlight Embraer’s strong momentum across all business units, with historic demand for both regional and defense aircraft, along with significant expansion in aftermarket services. With a record backlog and solid delivery performance, Embraer is on track for a strong year and continued global growth.
