Air Cambodia Launches Siem Reap–Shenzhen Flights

Air Cambodia has launched its first direct flight between Siem Reap International Airport (REP) and Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport (SZX), marking a new step in the airline’s regional expansion. The inaugural service took place on July 18, 2025, with flight K6929 departing Shenzhen at 06:41 local time and landing in Siem Reap at 07:43 after a two-hour journey. Operated by an Airbus A321, the flight carried 141 Chinese tourists to one of Cambodia’s most popular destinations.

The new route runs once a week, with departures from Siem Reap every Thursday at 21:30 and return flights from Shenzhen on Fridays at 06:20. The service is expected to strengthen inbound tourism from China, which ranks as the third-largest source of visitors to Cambodia, after Thailand and Vietnam. In 2024, Cambodia welcomed nearly 849,000 Chinese tourists, representing a 55% increase over the previous year.

This new route is part of Air Cambodia’s broader transformation. The airline, formerly known as Cambodia Angkor Air, rebranded to Air Cambodia in January 2025 as part of a modernization and repositioning initiative. However, the launch of the new branding has drawn public scrutiny due to its resemblance to Thai Airways’ identity. The carrier’s purple-and-gold color scheme, logo, and crew uniforms sparked comparisons online, particularly in Thai media.

Responding to the criticism, Air Cambodia clarified that the dark purple and blue hues in its livery symbolize stability and tranquility, while red represents strength and passion. The golden yellow is intended to reflect prosperity and holds royal significance in Cambodian culture.

Air Cambodia is 51% owned by the Cambodian government, while the remaining 49% is held through a joint venture between China’s Henan Airport Investment Group and Vietnam Airlines. With the new route to Shenzhen, the carrier aims to capture growing demand from China and solidify its role in regional aviation, linking Cambodia’s key tourist cities with major Chinese hubs.
