Passenger Caught Vaping Mid-Flight Met by Police

An American Airlines passenger was met by police upon arrival in San Francisco after being caught vaping in the aircraft bathroom during a flight from Phoenix on August 4.
The passenger, Peter Nguyen, told Storyful he “only took one puff” before a flight attendant forced entry into the lavatory. Nguyen recorded the encounter, claiming the attendant reached for his phone and put her hands on him during the confrontation. In the video, she can be seen moving toward the device as it filmed.
American Airlines confirmed Nguyen was met by San Francisco Police upon landing. “A customer on American Airlines flight 2860 with service from Phoenix (PHX) to San Francisco (SFO) was removed from the aircraft upon arrival at SFO due to disruptive behavior. We thank our customers for their patience and apologize for any inconvenience,” an airline spokesperson said.
Vaping aboard an aircraft is a federal offense under FAA regulations. The incident underscores the seriousness of in-flight safety rules and the potential legal consequences for violating them.
American Airlines has not released further details on possible charges. Nguyen has not publicly stated whether he intends to pursue legal action regarding the confrontation.
