Air Canada has announced it will inaugurate its first Airbus A321XLR with nonstop seasonal service between Montreal and Mallorca, Spain, marking the airline’s debut on the popular Mediterranean island. Beginning June 17, 2026, the carrier will operate the route through October 24, 2026, becoming the first Canadian airline to offer direct flights to Mallorca.

The new service highlights the arrival of Air Canada’s long-range Airbus A321XLR, which offers a range of up to 4,700 nautical miles and is designed to connect secondary cities with distant destinations more efficiently. The aircraft’s extended range allows Air Canada to open new transatlantic markets that were previously not viable with single-aisle jets, while providing passengers with the comfort and amenities of a modern cabin.

Airline executives said the A321XLR will play a key role in expanding Air Canada’s international network and giving travelers more choices to reach sought-after destinations. The Mallorca route caters to the growing demand for leisure travel from Canada to Southern Europe, especially during the peak summer season.

Industry observers view the launch as a milestone for Canadian aviation, demonstrating how next-generation narrowbody aircraft can open new point-to-point opportunities and boost tourism in both directions. Air Canada’s move also positions it competitively against European carriers serving the Mediterranean from North America. With its inaugural A321XLR route, the airline is signaling a new chapter in transatlantic connectivity tailored to changing passenger preferences.
