JFK Moves Rideshare Pickups Off-Site Amid Construction

Travelers flying into New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport are facing new hurdles as major rideshare pickup points have been moved off-site for several terminals. The change, part of JFK’s $19 billion redevelopment project, has sparked frustration among passengers who now must navigate extra steps to meet their rides.

At Terminal 4, serving Delta, Virgin Atlantic, Emirates, and Singapore Airlines, passengers between noon and 2 a.m. are required to take a free shuttle bus to Lot 66 to meet rideshare drivers lined up in numbered stalls. This process has been in place since May and already adds time for arriving travelers.

Now, JFK has extended similar off-site pickups to Terminals 5 and 7. Passengers landing there must board the AirTrain’s green line to Howard Beach Station, exit the train, and walk to a pickup lot shared with long-term parking and car services. This can take up to 15 minutes or longer, depending on crowding.

Airport officials say the changes are necessary to manage traffic and construction as JFK transforms into a “world-class gateway.” But many travelers are venting on social media, with some reporting 45-minute waits just to reach their cars.

Some frequent flyers suggest bypassing the official instructions by taking the AirTrain to Terminal 8, where rideshare pickups are still allowed directly at the curb. While construction is expected to improve JFK’s facilities in the long run, for now it’s making one of America’s busiest airports even more challenging for arriving passengers.
