Breeze Gains Flag Carrier Status for Intl Launch

Breeze Airways has achieved U.S. flag carrier certification from the Federal Aviation Administration, paving the way for its first international flights. The airline will debut services in early 2026 to Cancún, Punta Cana, and Montego Bay, expanding its low-cost model beyond domestic markets.
The new international routes will connect from six U.S. airports: Charleston, New Orleans, Norfolk, Providence, Raleigh-Durham, and Tampa. To support the expansion, Breeze plans to open a new crew base in Raleigh during the first quarter of 2026. The base, its 12th nationwide, is expected to create over 200 jobs for pilots and flight attendants.
“Becoming a U.S. flag carrier is a huge milestone for Breeze,” said founder and CEO David Neeleman. “We’re excited to bring the same convenience and elevated experience our customers love about domestic flights to these exciting new international destinations.”
Flag carrier designation is a critical step for any U.S. airline planning international service, as it ensures compliance with bilateral agreements and regulatory frameworks that govern cross-border air travel.
Breeze currently operates a fleet of 54 aircraft, including 42 Airbus A220-300s, 10 Embraer E190s, and 2 Embraer E195s. The airline has built its brand on point-to-point service from underserved U.S. markets, and international expansion marks its next stage of growth.
With its certification and network plans in place, Breeze aims to position itself as a new player in the leisure-focused international market, targeting popular Caribbean destinations for U.S. travelers.
