United Airlines Resumes Flights to Vietnam and Thailand in October

United Airlines is set to resume flights to Thailand and Vietnam beginning October 26, marking the carrier’s return to two of Southeast Asia’s most popular destinations. The routes will operate from Los Angeles (LAX) and San Francisco (SFO), with a stop in Hong Kong, offering travelers renewed access to Bangkok and Ho Chi Minh City.

The move positions United as the only U.S. carrier providing direct service to Thailand, as Thai Airways International has yet to restart its U.S. operations since suspending them several years ago. The addition of these routes strengthens United’s transpacific network and reinforces its commitment to serving key markets across Asia.

Daily flights will be operated using Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, known for their fuel efficiency, lower emissions, and passenger comfort. The aircraft features United Polaris business class, Premium Plus, Economy Plus, and standard economy cabins, along with upgraded in-flight entertainment, Wi-Fi connectivity, and enhanced onboard dining options.

United’s return to Vietnam and Thailand comes in response to growing demand for travel between the U.S. and Southeast Asia, particularly from leisure travelers and business passengers. Tourism to Thailand and Vietnam has rebounded sharply since pandemic restrictions were lifted, and both countries continue to attract American travelers seeking cultural experiences, beach destinations, and vibrant culinary scenes.

“United remains focused on expanding our international network to meet the strong demand for long-haul travel,” said a United spokesperson. “Resuming service to Thailand and Vietnam not only reconnects travelers with two incredible destinations but also strengthens our presence in the broader Asia-Pacific region.”

The new routes will also enhance connectivity through United’s hub at San Francisco International Airport, a key gateway for transpacific travel. Passengers from across the U.S. will be able to connect easily to Southeast Asia through United’s domestic and international network.

Industry analysts view United’s expansion as a strategic move to capture demand ahead of Thai Airways’ potential return to the U.S. market. The carrier’s ability to offer the only direct service from an American airline gives it a competitive advantage, particularly among U.S.-based travelers and corporate clients.

By restoring these routes, United Airlines continues to rebuild its long-haul network while reinforcing its role as a major link between North America and Southeast Asia’s growing tourism and business centers.
