More than 3,200 Boeing defense workers in Missouri and Illinois have voted to reject the company’s latest contract offer, extending a strike that is set to enter its fourth month. The workers are represented by IAM District 837 of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, which said the proposal failed to address core priorities, including wage protections and job security.

IAM International President Brian Bryant said members “won’t be fooled by PR spin,” urging Boeing to present a deal that reflects workers’ contributions. The union said Boeing dismissed its own proposed alternative contract as a “publicity stunt,” further escalating tensions. “Boeing can end this strike tomorrow,” said IAM Midwest Territory Vice President Sam Cicinelli. “All it has to do is put a fair deal on the table.”

Boeing’s latest proposal included a 24% general wage increase over five years, a $3,000 ratification bonus, and $3,000 in restricted stock units vesting over three years, as well as a $1,000 retention bonus in year four and continued 401(k) and healthcare benefits. However, the updated offer reduced certain attendance-based pay incentives compared with earlier terms.

Boeing expressed disappointment in the vote, noting the contract was rejected by a narrow 51% to 49% margin. The company said it is preparing to implement further contingency plans and indicated that some workers have shown interest in returning.

As the strike continues, Boeing estimates the average employee will forfeit roughly $26,100 in wages and $4,200 in benefits — the equivalent of five missed paychecks.
