Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) has officially entered the Airbus A350 into service, operating its first passenger flight with the aircraft on October 25, 2025. The debut marks the start of a fleet renewal program that will see 10 A350-900s delivered to SWISS by 2031.

The inaugural flight, LX2152, departed Zurich (ZRH) for Palma de Mallorca (PMI) at 07:11 local time with 233 passengers onboard. The aircraft also featured the airline’s new “SWISS Senses” long-haul cabin design, introduced to elevate comfort and passenger experience across premium and economy cabins.

“This first revenue flight of our new Airbus A350 is the result of many months of preparation,” said SWISS COO Oliver Buchhofer. “Introducing a new aircraft type is always a major project from both technical and operational perspectives.”

SWISS CFO Dennis Weber said the airline is currently investing around CHF 1 billion (USD 1.26 billion) annually to upgrade its fleet and onboard product. “Our A350 is tangible proof of these investments. It will allow our customers to fly more comfortably and more sustainably,” he added.

Before entering long-haul service, the A350—registered HB-IFA and named Lausanne—will operate short-haul routes to cities including Prague, Hanover, Düsseldorf, Málaga, and Palma. These flights form part of the crew’s real-world operational training phase. Premium economy seats will temporarily be sold as extra-legroom economy, while first class will remain unavailable until long-haul deployment.

SWISS plans to begin A350 long-haul service on November 20, 2025, with the aircraft’s first Zurich–Boston rotation.
