JetBlue Flight Turns Back to Boston Over ‘Disruptive’ Passenger

A JetBlue flight from Boston to Las Vegas was forced to return to Logan International Airport Monday night after reports of a “disruptive” passenger, but one traveler claims the incident was exaggerated.

The witness, who spoke to NBC Boston on condition of anonymity, said he was seated near the 37-year-old Kentucky man accused of being non-compliant and verbally abusive on Flight 777. According to Boston police, the passenger was removed from the aircraft upon its return.

“He was sober and never stood up once, never raised his voice or swore,” the witness said. “He just asked to move to one of the empty seats.”

The witness alleged the situation escalated when a flight attendant questioned the man’s request and accused him of being uncooperative. The passenger reportedly said he would file a complaint with JetBlue and record the interaction. The witness claimed the crew then decided to turn the aircraft around near Rochester, New York.

“It was absolutely ridiculous,” he said. “Look how much money they probably spent to turn that plane around and ruin everyone’s night.”

The witness added that two other passengers who defended the man were also escorted off the plane.

Authorities have not released further details, though NBC Boston reported that the Kentucky man faces a charge of interfering with a flight crew.

JetBlue confirmed that the flight continued to Las Vegas after the passengers were removed, landing about four hours late. “Safety is JetBlue’s first priority, and we appreciate everyone’s patience while we addressed this situation,” the airline said in a statement.
