Sandals Resorts Shares Safety Update After Hurricane Melissa

As Jamaica begins recovery efforts following Hurricane Melissa’s catastrophic Category 5 landfall this week, Sandals Resorts has confirmed that all guests and staff are safe across its Jamaican properties.
“Following Hurricane Melissa’s landfall in Jamaica yesterday, we are grateful to share that all guests and team members staying at our resorts are safe,” Sandals said in a statement. “The safety and well-being of our guests and team members remain our highest priority.”
The company added that it is conducting comprehensive assessments of its seven Sandals resorts and one Beaches property in Negril. While early reports and social media images show debris and roof damage at some locations, structural impacts appear to be minimal.
Sandals expressed gratitude to guests for their cooperation during storm preparations and to staff members who ensured safety while managing personal challenges at home. “Your compassion and sense of community lifted spirits during a difficult time,” the company said.
For travelers whose plans were disrupted, Sandals’ customer service team is offering flexible rebooking options and will contact guests with reservations over the next two weeks. Impacted travelers can also reach out to 1-800-SANDALS for assistance, though response times may be delayed due to high call volumes.
The company encouraged guests and supporters to contribute to the ongoing recovery through the Sandals Foundation at sandalsfoundation.org.
Hurricane Melissa has since weakened to a Category 2 storm as it moves across Cuba, the Bahamas, and toward Bermuda.
