Somon Air Orders Up to 14 Boeing 787 and 737 Max Jets to Expand Global Network

Boeing and Somon Air, the national carrier of Tajikistan, announced that the airline has committed to its largest-ever aircraft order, selecting up to 14 Boeing 787 Dreamliner and 737 Max airplanes to expand and modernize its fleet. The agreement includes up to four 787-9 Dreamliners for long-haul operations and up to ten 737-8s to enhance regional connectivity and replace older 737 models.
Currently, Somon Air operates six Next-Generation 737 aircraft serving 25 destinations across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. The introduction of the widebody 787-9s will enable the airline to launch new intercontinental routes from Dushanbe, connecting Tajikistan with major global markets. The 737-8s, meanwhile, will form the foundation of the carrier’s short- and medium-haul network, delivering improved operational efficiency and passenger comfort.
“We are pleased to announce our commitment to expand our fleet with Boeing’s state-of-the-art 787 Dreamliner and 737 MAX airplanes,” said Abdulkosim Valiev, CEO of Somon Air. “This significant investment not only marks our first widebody order but also reinforces our dedication to providing exceptional service and comfort to our passengers. With flexibility built into this commitment, Somon Air can adjust its fleet further based on market demand.”
The new aircraft are expected to deliver 20–25% better fuel efficiency compared to the models they replace, reducing per-seat costs and emissions while improving maintenance performance.
The agreement was signed during the C5+1 Summit as the U.S. marks the 10th anniversary of the diplomatic platform. Once finalized and listed on Boeing’s Orders & Deliveries website, the deal will support more than 11,000 jobs across the United States, according to Boeing.
“Somon Air’s continued choice of Boeing as its strategic partner underscores their commitment to modernizing their fleet and expanding their route network,” said Paul Righi, Boeing vice president of Sales and Marketing for Eurasia and India. “The versatility and performance of the 787-9 and 737-8 provide Somon Air with the essential tools needed to scale operations efficiently and sustainably.”
Since entering service in 2011, the Boeing 787 Dreamliner family has carried over one billion passengers and opened more than 520 new nonstop routes worldwide.
Founded in 2008, Somon Air operates from Dushanbe International Airport and serves destinations throughout Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. The airline remains focused on safety, service excellence, and innovation, with a fleet currently composed entirely of Boeing 737 aircraft.
