BOC Aviation has signed a purchase-and-leaseback agreement with Akasa Air for three new Boeing 737-8 aircraft, strengthening the Indian low-cost carrier’s expanding fleet. The Singapore-based lessor confirmed that all aircraft, powered by CFM LEAP-1B engines, will be delivered in January 2026 under long-term operating leases.

Paul Kent, Chief Commercial Officer at BOC Aviation, said the deal highlights the company’s commitment to supporting Akasa Air’s growth during a key expansion phase. He added that the Boeing 737-8 remains one of the most efficient and popular single-aisle aircraft for modern fleets.

Priya Mehra, Chief of Governance and Strategic Acquisitions at Akasa Air, said the airline’s fleet expansion strategy prioritizes operational efficiency and sustainability. The partnership with BOC Aviation, she noted, reinforces Akasa’s goal to grow its network both domestically and internationally.

Akasa Air, which launched operations in August 2022, recently celebrated its third anniversary and continues to grow rapidly. It began international service to Doha in March 2024 and currently operates 30 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. The airline has carried more than 20 million passengers across 24 domestic and six international destinations.

In July 2025, Akasa Air placed a firm order for 226 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, underscoring its ambitions to become one of India’s leading carriers and expand its footprint in the global aviation market.
