EASA Launches Survey on How Working Conditions Impact Aviation Safety

The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has launched a comprehensive Europe-wide survey to examine how socio-economic and employment conditions may influence safety performance and wellbeing among aviation professionals. The initiative supports EASA’s mandate under Article 89 of Regulation (EU) 2018/1139, which requires ongoing monitoring of socio-economic factors affecting aviation safety.
The survey is directed at pilots, cabin crew and operational control personnel — including dispatchers and flight operations officers — across Europe. Its goal is to better understand how working environments, employment models, scheduling, pay structures and job pressures may affect human performance and operational safety in safety-critical roles.
EASA emphasises that input from frontline professionals is essential to strengthening safety culture and shaping future policy. The survey is designed to inform safety improvements, not to evaluate individual companies or employees.
Participation takes around 30 minutes and must be completed in one session. To protect privacy, EASA confirms that all responses will remain confidential, processed solely for research purposes in compliance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Data will be anonymised, securely stored and deleted at the end of the project.
The survey is open until 30 November.
