Avelo Airlines to Focus on East Coast Growth Ahead of E195-E2 Fleet

Avelo Airlines (XP), based in Burbank, will prioritize consolidating operations at its core East Coast bases in 2026 as it prepares for the arrival of its first Embraer E195-E2 aircraft in mid-2027, according to Mike Corcoran, the airline’s director of network planning.
Avelo ordered fifty E195-E2s in September, with options for fifty more, becoming the aircraft type’s U.S. launch customer. As part of its consolidation strategy, the airline has exited its West Coast network, ending all Burbank services on October 20.
Corcoran said that shifting capacity eastward will allow Avelo “to scale all of these smaller [East Coast] airports,” increasing brand visibility and relevance. “Our number one inhibitor to growth right now is that a lot of people don’t know we exist,” he said at the Routes TakeOff North America conference in Tallahassee, Florida. “Driving scale and building out our current bases is the right path forward for building brand awareness—and that should translate into more customers.”
According to ch-aviation data, Avelo currently operates a fleet of eight Boeing 737-700s and fourteen Boeing 737-800s.
The airline expects to begin receiving one E195-E2 per month starting mid-2027, continuing over a five-year period. It has identified around 20 potential secondary airports near major metro areas where the new aircraft could be based. Avelo has not finalized the cabin configuration but is targeting approximately 140 seats.
Corcoran added that the E2s will eventually support a return to the West Coast. “We absolutely plan to expand nationally once again,” he said. “The E2 is going to enable us to go back there in a smarter, more effective way,” resolving previous challenges of operating on both coasts without mid-continent connectivity.
